Articles

In these past weeks we have focused on media literacy and how that now encompasses more than just reading and writing (but both are still important as we have to be able to communicate in these ways). Building on previous modules, we read an article about participatory culture that discussed the importance of being able to filter fact from fiction, which, in this age of digital news and fake news, is so important. Cultural awareness and respect is part of media literacy. Collaboration and failing are all part of learning and were discussed in this articles annotations with classmates. We also looked at the difference between knowledgeable and knowledge-able, both which are important but I contend that being knowledgeable and a content expert are just as important as being able to sort through resources to find information.

I found some media literacy articles and shared them with my classmates.

Challenges

I MC'ed my first dialogue which focused on the Digital Youth Network. This was part of the past module, but since I MC'ed and did extensive video editing and organized the discussion group, I'm counting it toward this module's challenge as well.

Forms of Media Used:  video editing, audio editing, use of graphics, dialogue

I chose to do a 10 Things challenge and utilized social media to come up with some of the content. First, I polled Twitter with what names people use for carbonated beverages; what cocktails people like to make with them; and then I polled Facebook for what uses can be found for carbonated beverages other than drinking. It turned into a fun project and I decided to try out Animaker which is a free animated video website. I did run into technical difficulties using this site and lost my project once, so I recommend with reservations. Perhaps the paid subscription version is more robust.

Daily Creates

I chose the Daily Create of photo editing a black and white photo and highlighting something by making it red. Since I do not own Photoshop, I researched free apps to download and used Photo Splash to accomplish this photo that was remixed from a photograph I took a week prior of my friend's and my cocktails.

The next Daily Create I chose was to create a GIF showing what a mouse left to his own devices in a bookstore might do. This one decided to go on some adventures.

This Daily Create was to design a coat of arms that we identify with. Since I'm at the end of the semester and have been extremely busy at work, I thought this was appropriate.
